Carol Newbauer was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. She’s a product of public education, first attending her neighborhood magnet Montessori primary and elementary school and then attending a public college-preparatory school. She pursued an undergraduate degree in psychology with minors in sexuality studies and communication to learn about human behavior and factors contributing to life outcomes at Ohio State University. Developing a passion for supporting historically underserved youth led her to serve two years with AmeriCorps in public education in Columbus, Ohio. First as a behavior and ELA interventionist with high schoolers and then as a parent engagement coordinator with elementary schools. Through this work, she saw how children benefited from authentic connection, consistent expectations and boundaries, genuine care, and multi-tiered systems of supports.

Understanding the need for and benefits of early intervention and developing resiliencies within youth caused her to pursue a master’s of education in Montessori education at Xavier University. During her graduate studies, she worked at the university’s Montessori Lab School in both lower and upper elementary classrooms. After moving to Tucson, AZ, in 2022, she took over an upper elementary classroom at a Montessori charter school. She is excited to extend her knowledge and skillset in the Ramírez-Andreotta Integrated Environmental Science and Health Risk Laboratory. Carol approaches her work and engagement using a trauma-informed and intersectionality framework. She is dedicated to using her voice and privilege to advocate for education and youth and is committed to empowering adolescents through cultivating social-emotional and critical thinking skills.
