On September 26, 2026, STEAM in Action began its second year of Youth Advisory Board (YAB) meetings, and we now have 3 YABs! We’re so excited to welcome Superior’s board, the Youth Advisory Administration (YAA)! During their first meeting, 4 youth, identified their common goals as being: help community, issues in the community, research, and listening to concerns. The advisory board members reviewed “What is an Advisory Board?” and developed a mission statement, “As a YAB we will help and work on community concerns and do research together to help for health.”
The Hayden-Winkelman-Kearny board, the Youth Environmental Protectors (YEP), welcomed 2 new members, resulting in 7 total members ranging from 7th through 11th grade! While the Globe-Miami board, the Youth Environmental Squad (YES) remained at 6 members, now 8th through 12th graders! Three board members are now seniors at Globe High School!
For each YABs’ first meeting of the second year, we reflected on how the first year went: should we begin recruiting more members? Thoughts on how the Intergeneration Data Report Back Celebration and Youth Co-Authorship Workshop went. Together, we reviewed the upcoming semester and decided to keep advisory board meetings on the final Friday of each month! Advisory board members took the led on directing their meeting and developed plans for assigning roles to allow everyone opportunities for leadership.
