Hello! My name is Illiana Samorano. I am a sophomore majoring in Environmental Science with a minor in Spanish. As a south metropolitan Tucson resident and daughter of an incredible single Mexican mother, environmental and social disparities are an inescapable part of my reality. However, I have the privilege of being a university student in a discipline that I love and has tangible ramifications on my community. Fueled by a desire to understand the world around me and protect families like mine, I am thrilled to be working in the Ramirez-Andreotta Environmental Science and Health Risk Lab! My special interests include pollutant fate-and-transport and effective data visualization and interpretation techniques. After graduation, I hope to pursue a career in environmental policy or EHS, where I can use my Spanish-English interpretation skills and safeguard the health of vulnerable and working-class communities.
