Josie Castillo was born and raised in a small farming community in Buckeye, Arizona. She has been with the University of Arizona since 2023. She has worked with Cooperative Extension teaching financial literacy and Positive Discipline Association parenting classes. She previously held a position as a Computer Lab teacher at a charter school in South-Central Phoenix, for at-risk students.

Having lived primarily in rural communities, she has always integrated herself in the community, both at a professional and personal level. She has seen young people thrive when shown personal and genuine interest in their well-being and growth. Josie is eager to learn and be a part of the Ramirez-Andreotta Integrated Environmental Science and Health Risk Laboratory team. She is an advocate at heart and is excited to bring further education to the Copper Corridor. Her outreach abilities will foment new and existing partnerships in all areas of environmental science.

In her free time, Josie is an avid hiker, loves to cook for her extended family, and volunteers many hours each month as part of a worldwide Bible education program.
